Green School

As part of our commitment to equity and social justice, at St. John's we value the inclusion of environmental stewardship as another integral part of the life of the school.

The Green Patrol is a commitment by various groups in the school to care for the many garden areas that beautify our campus. It is reflective of the joint commitment of our school with St. John's Episcopal Church and their Garden committee maintain our 14-acre campus and ensure its vitality for generations to come. Each of the classrooms and Administrative teams at St. John's have adopted gardens on campus for which they have the primary responsibility for care. This dedication to our campus reinforces, in a hands-on way, our call to be stewards of the earth which God has created for us. Attention to these gardens includes weeding, mulching, some minor planting, and trimming shrubs.

The 5th grade class of 2020 produced a Native Tree Scavenger Hunt and video presentation as one of their environmental projects. Watch the video below to learn more about the trees on our campus that are native to Maryland. Join in on the fun by participating in the St. John's scavenger hunt! See the document below for details.
