SJPDS Celebrates the 2022 Lunar New Year

A display of multiple student paintings of a tiger's face in celebration of the lunar new year, year of of the tiger.

Happy Lunar New Year to All Celebrating! The year of the Tiger began on Feb 1st, 2022, with the last one being in 2010! Our students celebrated and learned about the Lunar New Year with various fun and engaging activities. To highlight a few: Students drew this year's animal, the Tiger, with crayons and added a watercolor background with sprinkled salt for snow in Early Childhood Art. Ms. Wedderburn's 4's class made paper lanterns and enjoyed a visit from a parent that came in to teach the children about the Lunar New Year, bringing red envelopes and dumplings for each student.

4th graders made good luck ornaments and hung them on their classroom door. Then one of the students shared about their traditional Korean clothing called a Hanbok, and another passed out red envelopes with chocolate coins. 5th graders made Chinese symbols for good luck and played a traditional Chinese game called Dragon's Tail.
