Black History Month Resources

February is Black History Month, celebrating African Americans' history, achievements, contributions, and culture throughout American history, arts, society, and more. While we look forward to sharing the various ways our students observe and learn about Black History Month, we also invite you to celebrate and learn with your child(ren) beyond the classroom. Below are some helpful family resources for celebrating:

A newly published book by SJPDS alumna, Anna Gifty Opoku-Agyeman '07! This book is a collection bringing together leading Black scholars and experts for a policy-oriented approach to the fight for racial justice in America. The book features Black voices across economics, education, health, climate, and technology, speaking to the question "What's next?" as it pertains to centering Black people in policy matters in our country.

Resources to help parents teach children about Black History Month featuring articles, questions to ask your child, craft ideas, and more.

A list of 25 children’s books to help kids understand and become more compassionate to diversity and combating racism.

Learn and grow as a family by watching movies that celebrate Black stories and history. These are great ways to kick off Black History Month and start the discussion.

A website dedicated to African American History Month that offers an abundant archive of exhibits and collections covering a variety of topics including education, arts, sports, places, culture, and more.
