Sue Emerson is currently the Director of Communications and Business Development for Leadership Howard County. She manages organization-wide messaging, communications, media, advertising, and social marketing strategies, and provides leadership and coordination of fundraising and business development activities.
Sue’s community connections have been developed over 17 years of involvement with county
businesses and nonprofit organizations. Previously at Emerson Communications, Sue specialized in providing marketing strategies and public relations for Howard County organizations, including the Howard County Economic Development Authority and Leadership Howard County. She has written articles for many local publications on community events and tourism destinations, including
Baltimore’s Child, Maryland Life, and the Business Monthly, and previously served as editor of the Maryland Church News for the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland. As Director of Community Development at Howard County Tourism, she promoted Howard County and its attractions through special events and promotions.
Sue is also a long-time community volunteer, serving in leadership positions at Glenelg High School; as a volunteer for the Women’s Giving Circle of Howard County, the Columbia Festival of the Arts, and the Howard County Arts Council. At St. John’s, Sue has been actively involved for many years, serving on the vestry, as vestry liaison to the SJPDS Board, newsletter editor, Sunday School teacher, and on several strategic planning committees.
Sue and her husband, Buddy, reside in West Friendship, and have two adult children who are St. John’s Parish Day School alumni.
