The Parents’ Association at St. John’s Parish Day School is an active one.  We are constantly pursuing our goals of:

1.  Promoting a sense of community among the parents, teachers, staff, and administration.

2.  Providing a strong communication link between parents and the school including the teachers, staff, administration, and Board of Trustees.

3.  Assisting in the maintenance of the unique culture and atmosphere of the school by promoting the school’s pledge and mission.

4.  Sponsoring activities, events, and programs that enrich our students’ educational experience.

5.  Raising funds in order to support the budge of the Parents’ Association. 

 

Martin Luther King, Jr.  "Visions of Peace" Contest

Peace Image2012 marks the 1st Annual "Visions of Peace" contest sponsored by the Parents' Association. 

All Early Childhood and Lower School students are encouraged to participate in the contest by submitting an essay, poetry, artwork, photograph or other form of written expression.  The submission should focus on the theme "Imagine Peace" Creating His Dream Together."

Contest Rules

  1. All entries must be original work of a St. John's Parish Day School student.
  2. Written expressions should not exceed 300 words.
  3. Students are allowed on entry in total. All entries must be submitted by 4 pm on January 31, 2012. 
  4. All entries should be placed in the "Visions of Peach" box outside the main office in the Lower School.  The box will be emptied regularly. 
  5. To facilitate anonymity in judging, the following information must be clearly printed on the back of the entry: student's full name, grade level, and teacher's name. 

Judging

Winners will be chosen from each of the following five age groups:

  1. 3 and 4 year olds,
  2. TK and Kindergarten,
  3. 1st and second grade,
  4. 3rd and 4th grade,
  5. 5 th grade.

Entries will be judged on a point system with the following criteria considered:

  1. Entries must address the theme.
  2. Entries should relate the student's own personal ideas or experiences to the topic and show and understanding of Dr. King's ideals.
  3. Entries must not be a biographical sketch of Dr. King.
  4. Entries will be judged on the basis of clearly expressed and creative ideas. 

In judging entries, emphasis will be placed on clarity, creativity, and originality. For written entries, spelling, grammar, and punctuation will be considered only as developmentally appropriate. 

Winners

Contest winners will be recognized at a specialy assembly in February 2012. Awards will be distributed at that time.
