Lunch & Snacks

St. John’s students who are enrolled in an Early Childhood full-day program or in Lower School, Grades K – 5, will have lunch at school. Children have the choice to bring a lunch from home or to order lunch from CKCS Foods.  Children also have the option of ordering milk to be served during lunch. Lunch and milk are purchased in advance so there is no need for your child to bring money to school for lunch. Children are not permitted to bring gum or soda for lunch.

• Nut-Free Environment: St. John’s strives to be a nut free environment and to that end we ask that no one bring any nut products to school – this includes peanut butter sandwiches, trail mix, or any other items containing nuts of any kind. While we strive to be nut-free we cannot absolutely guarantee that the snacks we provide have been processed in a nut-free environment. Parents of children with food allergies may choose to provide their children’s snacks and lunch from home.
While we encourage our children to be kind and generous citizens, they are not permitted to share food during lunch or at snack time.

• Snacks: Children in enrolled in Early Childhood are provided with a daily snack including milk. Children attending Lower School (Grades K – 5), may bring a daily snack. Water is provided during snack for Lower School children. Snack times vary by classroom at the discretion of the classroom teacher.

• In-School Lunch Program: Our in-school lunch program is hosted by CKCS Foods.   CKCS Foods is committed to bringing fresh, delicious food to our school that is appropriately portioned for children and/or adults.  Each day up to four lunch options will be make available including a salad option, yogurt option, hummus plate and the featured item of the day.  Ordering is simple and easy!  Click here to view a menu and/or order lunch.  Should you have a specific question regarding a menu item click on the CKCS Foods link.

• Milk: Milk is available to children who have purchased it in advance. Milk costs $60.00 per year. Milk Order Form

• Pizza Friday: Children may order pizza for lunch on Fridays throughout the school year. Pizza is ordered in advance for the school quarter. Pizza is provided by Vocelli’s in Ellicott City. Your child may order up to 3 slices of pizza for lunch. You must continue to send your child with a drink (unless they have ordered milk) and any side items to accompany their pizza.

There are no refunds if your child is absent from school on a pizza Friday for which you have placed an order.

• Lunch brought from home: Many St. John’s students bring a lunch from home. In-line with our Green School status, we encourage students to use a reusable lunch bag or lunchbox, a reusable cloth napkin, and washable utensils. Please remember that nuts of any kind are not permitted to be brought to the school for lunch or snack. Please include a cold pack in lunches that should remain cold and a thermos for items that are to remain warm.
