Headmaster's May Book Selection
Last Child in the Woods by Richard Louv, 2006 (ISBN-10: 1-56512-522-3).
Richard Louv has put together this nicely-researched and very readable text on the difficulties our society is encountering due to the distancing of children from the natural environment. The case is made for what the problem is, how it has developed, the advantages of re-kindling the relationship of children with nature, and some prescriptions for how to make needed changes. As a Maryland Green School and a parish committed to sustainability efforts, this book should be on our "must read" list.
